Anyone who is upset that California fast food workers at major national chains will start earning $20/hr needs to realize that the minimum wage would actually be at least $24/hr if it had been raised at the same pace as worker productivity gains since the 1960s.

The USA federal minimum wage could be $29 / hour instead of $7.25.

However, even $15 was too much for particular US Senators.

Two years ago today, the Dobbs decision was leaked.

No matter how hard he tries, Donald Trump can’t sidestep his role in abortion being banned for millions.

In 2016 he pledged to remake the Supreme Court with nominees who would overturn Roe v. Wade.

He is directly responsible.

This is stupid! Call out Apple for the choices they made that actually harmed everyone, even people who weren't tricked or bullied into buying Apple products.

My main use of the deadbird site at this point is to chide journalists for remaining there as supporters of an extremists who hates journalism.

While I'm there, I unfollow a bunch of accounts. In most cases they are people I respect in other ways, but I don't want them to think I support what they are doing.

I fully agree with your approach. I locked my account ages ago. Ever since then, each time I access it, I remove at least three followers. Eventually that account will have nobody following it.

Does life have meaning?

Haven't a fucking clue. But it's probably the wrong question.

What should you be doing?

Enjoy yourself, help others enjoy themselves. Do no harm. Protect the weak. Clean as you go and don't leave messes for others.

The human race as a whole is failing at most of this. Monsters like Putin, Netenyahu, Trump, are examples of where we really are: a race broadly trapped in a model that says inflicting harm on others is the only way to have a safe space for yourself.

One thing you should add: plan things out more than you believe is required.

Most harms and messes actually are a result of short-term planning.

Please try Session, SimpleX, or Threema before deciding to stay with Signal (or WhatsApp).

They do a lot of things well, but when deciding things like this that could greatly improve the user experience I've found the Signal developers / leadership are not making good decisions.

It perplexes me how often arrogance and confidence are confused, or mistaken for each other, by people.

Arrogance:

Too much pride and claiming excessive consideration and/or control for yourself and too little regard and respect given for others.

Confidence:

Certainty - the quality of being reliably true. A fact that is definitely true or an event that will inevitably happen.

A firm trust in the certainty of someone or something based on abilities or qualities.
