@noelle this may have something to do with your PixelFed post being flagged....

RE: https://mastodon.social/users/dansup/statuses/110394752238130810

unattributed,

@noelle I'm not positive about this, but my guess is that PixelFed is testing their automated moderation system, and something about your post was flagged for manual review. (I'm guessing it might be something to do with the message being really short.)

I'm betting they are still training / tweaking the system.

@noellemitchell I find this just as confusing....

    unattributed,

@noellemitchell I'm wondering if maybe they are being a little extra-precautionary because of other recent spam issues, even though they haven't happened on PixelFed as far as I'm aware.

    Maybe @dansup can comment?

I’m so tired of talking about because there’s just nothing fun about it.

But then I remember that some people still use that app, and the Fediverse is a long, long way from killing Big Social.

In the meantime, we need to keep reading about all the shifty things that Twitter does, which include allowing Saudi spies to abuse the service.

    unattributed,

@atomicpoet @socialmedianews what posts me off about this is that it happened under Jack's regime. There should have been much better controls on place to screen employees to avoid situations like this.

And now with the Saudis having such influence over is in an even worse situation. But the blind loyal followers of Elon will refuse to see these problems. Just as they refused to see the issues with Elon bowing to censor several accounts right before an election.

This is a bit disturbing... Water should be an alternative, especially for kids that have issues with getting to much calcium.

Misskey and its clones reminds me of MySpace

It does many things, and the UI is packed with distracting elements like the current date represented in progress bars (lol why tho?)

I wish them all the best, maybe I'm old, but I like the simplicity of Mastodon

    unattributed,

@dansup I think I can explain how this widget came to be, at least based on a video I watched recently that seemed to be very well researched. The explanation has is roots in the differences in the way eastern cultures view perspective vs. Western cultures. (And since Misskey originated in Japan, I'm guessing this carried over to Calckey.)

It was noted recently that a lot of website in Japan and other eastern countries have UI/UX that that appear to be more in line with what we had about 10-20 years ago. IE, they are still very information dense with lots of columns of articles, links, etc.

The underlying reason for this is the way Japanese users interact with these sites. They tend to find it easier to have everything in a single place; they want a view of the overall picture. They don't want their attention directed to smaller, specific pieces of information.

My guess is this widget fulfilled the need of providing the bigger picture by putting the details on the left, while framing that information in three bigger scopes on the right: percentage of day, month, and year.

The only thing that surprises me is that they don't have the week as one of the scopes.

    unattributed,

@dansup I posted last night about this widget possibly being typical of difference in perspective between eastern and western cultures. I mentioned I had watched a couple of weeks researched videos that addressed this. Here they are:
