Laptop was getting full. Google Chrome turns out to consume 20.6 GB of space 🤨

(The only reason to install Chrome was for my gf to attend https://www.ugent.be/pp/en classes!)

To my surprise, Google is matching '90s MS Windows idiocy: they're literally and knowingly filling the disk with every version ever installed, going back years 💩 There's no UI to delete these. 💩

This violation of basic trust is why novice computer users say "my computer is old so it is full" and are right 😬

@yeri Yes.

wimleers,
@wimleers@drupal.community avatar

@yeri We have multiple concurrent users, maybe that’s when Chrome does this? Only a non-admin account uses Chrome.

In any case, Chrome’s auto-updater is broken.

@dr_marmelade 👋 The issue you started in August 2020 to deprecate the roles property on the FilterFormat config entity is now green and RTBC'able 🤓

A review (and ideally RTBC) from you would be wonderful and … would give you a satisfying feeling of closure? 😄

Really, really enjoyed Poor Things with a brilliant Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14230458/ A refreshingly original film amidst a tide of generic Hollywood rubbish.

Ik ga hem nog missen 😂

Now on TestFlight for macOS, iPadOS, and visionOS

I hope some day $manager will realize that planning a meeting at 10:30 scraps half a day for me

wimleers,
@wimleers@drupal.community avatar
wimleers,
@wimleers@drupal.community avatar

@jan @peturdainn Well, there’s one manager to many people. If the manager decides to consistently sacrifice the productivity of the people they manage … then they’re a poor manager.

wimleers,
@wimleers@drupal.community avatar

@jan @peturdainn Of course. Everything always requires balancing. Sometimes constraints do not allow for a better balance.

Walking that line carefully is a sign of a great manager (one of many signs).

My manager does this very well. But I’ve seen many people get this very wrong too. Indeed often not people managers but project managers.

Today, Manamanapp (doot doot dodoodoo 🎶 ) is born! A partnership between Kristof Saelen (UX+UI design), Kristof Van Landschoot (iOS dev), and myself (Android dev). We’ve been working together for multiple years now and decided to continue in a more cohesive way.

We may not take ourselves too seriously, but we are dead serious when it comes to app making! While we work to add past projects to our website, ask us anything.

Officially open for business: https://www.manamanapp.com/

this git reset --hard safety script from @chx is really cool (he sources it in .bashrc) https://gist.github.com/chx/85db0ebed1e02ab14b1a65b6024dea29

it automatically saves all your unstaged work in a backup commit before doing a git reset --hard

would love to see other examples of wrappers people are using to make git safer if you have them

In heating systems, why is a small difference between flow and return temperatures good? I would naively have thought a large difference meant that more heat was being released into the house?

wimleers,
@wimleers@drupal.community avatar

@joachim Heatpumps are most efficient at producing “low heat” temperature water: 30–35°C.

50°C is possible, but then they won’t be as efficient.

But if you go even lower, to 25°C supply temp for example, they’re even more efficient.

Hence heatpump systems usually are configured to produce a low temperature delta. Which is what you’re asking about.

High delta is fine, and the heat transfer into your home would be faster. But it’ll cost more energy to produce that heat.
