I really hope this was just a tragic accident and not something more sinister, as the consequences could be very bad for the world ;and region in general.
On the other hand, Oil companies will be hoping for more sinister so they have an excuse to raise oil prices.
Good grief. Whenever I think British politics is fucked up beyond repair, I see that someone from across the pond is standing there saying "hold my beer".

What science is this policy based on, masks are not just for covid, the work quite well for hayfeaver, and i think to some extent protect from air pollution. They also help prevent spreading of air borne viruses.
Happy to be corrected IF wrong, but this ban on masks just seems very unscientific.
The strength of the fediverse is that we can set up an instance that reflects our own values and the users who join share those values too. As a result we end up with instances that are very pro israel or pro palestine, we may get some that have sympthy with Hamas, or Hezbollah for example.
Perhaps this is a downside to that as well as an upside.
I wrote a fairly mundane post on Reddit that led to me getting an AI-prompted message with suicide prevention resources.
I was completely mystified but then I realized it was probably because I included the phrase: "I find it hard to manage" (in a context like "I find it hard to manage the crabgrass in my garden ... ").
This is the future isn't it? AI pestering us with context-free misunderstood nonsense. I guess I should just count myself lucky that the AI didn't institutionalize me.

As other have remarked Thurrock's communication(s) with Heidi Dodson are remarkable for their inhumanity, but it sort of follows from declarations that the vulnerable & poor are making 'lifestyle choices'.
Cruelty & callousness come down from our politicians who are forever 'punching down'.

Another question is why is Trump not in PRISON, A FATE that would be handed to ANY OTHER person attaching a member of the judiciary, be it judge or jury member or simply a courtroom clerk.
