The dudes currently setting potential world records of wealth destruction through their bad ideas, dispensing wisdom about how other people's ideas might cost investors money.🙂🙃
@aral Not going to start a huge debate here, I just have to get something off my chest. My personal emotion, not saying others have to agree, but here goes:
"Late-stage capitalism fill_in_gripe" looks, to me, just like rubber-necking at a highway pile-up. A lot of the world, including all the *isms seem a bit "late stage" these days. Changing the course of our societies does not hang on any ism, or "system". It all boils down to bad faith actors (people and decision-making bodies)1/
I have to say I’m not sure what they were hoping for, the discourse hasn’t felt overly mean by internet standards, but maybe that’s just my bubble. I’m sorry they died, but now that we know all the details it’s a bit like the guy that decided to hike up a lava field last year....
I certainly hope that. Right now I do not care that I am deeply into minus reps while having lots of upvotes, but when magazins/communities start to lock out accounts from interacting until they have certain rep, it won't be as good.
I have a suspicion this is because they recently swapped boosts and upvotes to play nicer with the wider fediverse, but they didn't update the reputation system to match
It should be, but currently people are farming negative reputation (karma) because downvotes generate negative rep but only boosts (which is like retweeting/crossposting to your profile) generate positive rep

The problem is people won't quit twitter (a lot of my friends are still on there with weak excuses why) and reddit users will come back because most people generally won't do short term pain for longterm gain. It's just not how humans are wired and it's painful to watch. I hope I'm proved wrong.
People may not quit Twitter or Reddit immediately, but as these communities grow over time they will become an increasingly viable alternative for Reddit and Twitter users.
TikTok didn’t take users from instagram overnight.
I've always hated that original meme. This is honestly much closer to the truth. The thing about hard times, is they don't lead to "strong" men, historically they've led to thousands of years of misery. Likewise, good times oftentimes lead to academic and institutional strength that can also perpetuate itself, which is the whole idea behind a "golden age."
