Researching Japanese game composers and like… I wish we could convince Wikipedia etc to adopt the practice of putting the major/family/"last" name in capital letters, ie, LAI Ching-te or Hideo KOJIMA or Andi MCCLURE*. You see this often in e.g. credits for art made in Chinese language countries.

There is no consistency in what order people Japanese list names in when speaking English, and WP has no one standard for clarifying.

  • Except oh no, the capitalization in my last name is significant

@eniko Lua is perfect. Well, ok, not perfect. Arrays start at 1 specifically to avoid the angry envy of the gods of programming (but you can still start at any index you like, including 0, if you don't fear the gods)

Oh lord the BBC website automatically redirects non-UK visitors to bbc.com now instead of allowing you to go to .co.uk. I see a quick glimpse of the milksake before the redirect happens.

The BBC is so embarrassed of the state of the UK they're like "let's not show them the real BBC news".

In computability theory, you have all those proofs involving a hypothetical situation in which you equip a machine with an 'oracle' that can answer some class of extra-hard question.

It's out of scope to wonder how those oracles might be implemented. But here's my theory.

I have a question for people with better theoretical background on and especially for developers.

Is the following pattern known and does it have a name?

I have a number of classes (call them C1, C2, etc) that all derive from the same class B. I have a superclass (template, actually) D that derives from C1, C2 etc. To have a single B, the standard solution is to go with virtual inheritance to close the diamond (so far, so good).

you ever think about how the standard cartoon bomb (a large blue or black sphere with a big fuse coming out the top) is essentially the "save icon" of destruction, because 1) it's symbolic meaning is widely understood, and 2) it's an anachronism that is widely recognized only for its symbolic meaning as its real life counterpart is long obsolete?
