Robert Helpmann's depiction of the child catcher in the film Chitty Chatty Bang Bang was brilliant but chilling. As a young boy, this guy was the most frightening person I had ever seen. I'm interested to see the first film or tv characters that frightened others as a child.
@BOPBadger for me it was, and remains Daleks. I would love to be able to watch Dr Who, but I saw Daleks when I was only 5 (probably on a 20-inch B&W TV), and I’ve been scarred for life!
