Love waking up to find out six hours ago someone edited a toot I’d boosted to say something wildly different and kinda problematic. There should be a limit to how much you can edit toots that have been boosted. Fix a typo? Absolutely. Totally change the content? No

joannaholman,
@joannaholman@aus.social avatar

@jedsetter it’s possible some servers have worked out how to set up stricter rules but the standard is it lets you edit and then notifies the people who boosted you of the edit

joannaholman,
@joannaholman@aus.social avatar

@stib @jedsetter as is you can easily unboost it. I think the big problem is a lot of people aren’t here all the time and/or are flooded with other notifications so a maliciously edited boost could easily sit on their profile for days before they notice

@joannaholman@aus.social avatar

@timrichards possibly. Changed it to a strong political sentiment unrelated to the original post

The big price rises at cafes and restaurants are helping me save money, because there are red lines I will not cross.

Eg I'm not paying more than $15 for a sandwich or $25 for a pub/cafe main. And I'm definitely not paying double figures for a slice of cake! Jesus.

Pubs and bars are getting a bit cheeky with pricing zero-alcohol beers too. I don't mind $9-$10 for a Heaps Normal, but no way am I paying $12. It's soft drink after all, get real.

folk, the ANZ banking museum has reopened in the gothic bank on the corner of Collins and Queen streets, moving into the ground floor grand chamber. The banking paraphernalia may or may not be interesting but the building is gorgeous and you can now get a look easier than when the whole floor was a bank branch

One of those who passed away in the Bondi Junction attack was Faraz Tahir, a Pakistani refugee newly employed as a security guard who was killed protecting others. I'm making a donation to ASRC, a charity working with refugees in his honour, consider doing the same if you are able. https://asrc.org.au/

Good to see. Not every CBD building needs to be a bubble tea shop or a cutting-edge restaurant charging $40+ for mains.

Hill of Content looks set to stay put after investor buys CBD building

@timrichards or a convenience store. I like a slurpie as much as anyone but I’m baffled as to how the CBD sustains so many, especially since there’s mini supermarkets with usually better prices

Subject: We're making changes to your account(s)

Deposit book availability and usage
• Some of our accounts currently allow you to use a deposit book when you make a deposit with us. You will no longer be able to order deposit books on these accounts.

Cheque book availability
• We’re phasing out cheque books as we’ve seen an ongoing decline in cheque use as more customers choose faster and easier ways to do their banking.

About fucken time!

So many tech/business bros out there prattling on about how normal jobs are a meaningless way to live and people should be pursuing entrepreneurship or at least joining startups. How do said dudes expect society to work? The electricity grid, roads, hospitals and a LOT of other things necessary for society to not fall over require a lot of people having normal jobs at very quite large companies to build and maintain.

Just had a $2 cup of 7-Eleven coffee on the way to a Comedy Festival show (sleepy emergency). Now I know what they do with waste sump oil. I'd often wondered.

joannaholman,
@joannaholman@aus.social avatar

@timrichards the only upside is their ice coffee is stronger than many places do it so it’s a solid emergency caffeine delivery option for those of us who don’t drink hot coffee
