Mindestens ein Dutzend meiner deutschen Freund*innen in Graz haben es nicht geschafft sich ins Register für die EU-Wahl eintragen zu lassen. Oje! :(

Dabei war es echt nicht schwierig. Die Antragstellung an das deutsche Amt, wo ich zuletzt gemeldet war, war bis vor zwei Wochen möglich. Das Formular war schnell gefunden, ausgedruckt, in wenigen Minuten ausgefüllt und versendet. Noch in der selben Woche kamen die Unterlagen zur Briefwahl retour!

@flowolf tschuldige. ist nicht wirklich meine absicht, mich in @linos persönlichen angelegenheiten einzumischen. aber allgemein - als hier lebender eu-zugereister: es ist super einfach, hier zu wählen, wenn man will.

wenn ich statistiken sehe, dass die wahlbeteiligung unter nichtösterreichischen eu-bürger:innen noch niedriger ist als der ö schnitt, bin ich unzufrieden. gerade wir, die von allem gebrauch machen, was uns die eu ermöglicht, sollten uns einbringen - nicht?

@flowolf @linos meine erste eu-wahl hier war 1996 - damals musste man die eintragung im wahlregister extra beantragen. das amt war in der beethovenstraße und die haben meinen antrag sehr freundlich entgegengenommen. (mein gott, in graz sind sogar die beamten nett, ha ich mir gedacht 🥰 - war von bayern was anderes gewohnt 🥺 )

verpasst hab ich nur eine eu-wahl, lustigerweise weil ich an dem tag freunden bei einem eu-projektantrag geholfen und nicht auf die uhr geschaut hab 😉

@linos @flowolf gabs zu meiner zeit nicht, hab ich nicht … du meinst wohl anmeldebescheinigung und daueraufenthaltsbesscheinigung? ich war schon 95 da, das hat's erst viel später gegeben. wahrscheinlich ist die große mehrheit von uns in dem sinne "illegal" … im wähler:innenregister bin ich trotzdem.

@linos @flowolf wofür man die daueraufenthaltsbescheinigung jemals wirklich braucht, ist mir bis heute nicht bekannt.

kurz nachdem ich hier ankgekommen bin hat es in der zeitung geheißen, alle, die eine aufenthaltserlaubnis nicht dringend brauchen, sollen bitte keine beantragen. die behörde hatte eine fuhre drucker eingekauft, die die sicherheitsmerkmale an den karten kaputtgemacht haben, und sie sind mit der händischen fertigung nicht nachgekommen. also hab ich so eine auch nie gehabt.

Then again, as silly as the rituals of diplomacy may seem, I try to remember that formalized compliments & titles & protocols historically grew out of episodes in which jaw-jaw replaced war-war. <>

"Gewindebohrer Sackloch" might be the thing you're looking for?

They seem to have sharp conical tips so if you want your hole with a blunt end maybe that's the wrong thing.

@quixoticgeek well the ones for "sackloch" at least don't have a tapered bit at the beginning of the thread cutter. Just a sharp point beyond it a bit like a normal drill bit. I guess you have to start the thread at the top of the hole with a normal one?

I’ve seen churches oppose aiding refugees— even protest or call the school board if others do so. Is this evangelism?

How can you work towards a church that is like this?

@pteranodo Yes there were quite massive displacements of ppl after WW1. In Western countries we tend not to have them in focus, I think. I was actually wondering if it was earlier. Vienna had a huge increase in population around the end of the 19th century, with an attendant hpusing crisis, & wouldn't surprise me if Budapest was similar.

Newspapers from this period are filled with the complaints of men who say bicycles ruined their marriages, since wives only care to ride and no longer tend to their "duties."

The Rev. Thomas Gregory saw the bike as a threat to his parishioners' intellect and health.

"It annihilates the reading habit. The libraries are deserted. It is a menace to domestic virtues. It breaks up and destroys the home."
