magazine for old book

I bought a chest made out of brass and tin today, it was very unusual looking and on £5.

Amy just opened it and found these books in there. I am so very curious to get home and look at them.

Anyone heard of Virtue’s Household Physician ?

I love old books. Especially if they have inscriptions.

Published in London, this copy was gifted to Mrs. Barney by Louise Moilliet in 1898.

The tiny inscription seems to indicate that the writer of this ballad might be the mother of Anna Sewell, who wrote Black beauty.

Just some 125 + year old

A very old book with a tiny little inscription. My imagination always starts whirling. Who was Mrs. Barney? How did Louise Moilliet know her?

Were they close friends, or acquaintances? Boss and employee?

Was this tiny little book of verse a cherished possession, or something that sat untouched in a drawer?

This has such a personal touch, unlike much of modern day gift-giving.

What would the recipient, Mrs. Barney, think of her gift being discarded upon her death?
