British early #medieval #historian (pre-christian to christian transition) turned #folklorist and #storyteller . I have a mission to re-enchant my home, the #IsleofWight by telling the stories that were taught to me & the ones that the wind whispers in my sleep. A little bit obsessed with the #Jutes , early medieval art, a whole lot obsessed with old #gods & "#AngloSaxon" #saints(especially local & unattested). Join me as I tell my stories; nothing is made up, just remembered differently.

Our latest single The Ballad of Pauline. If you like and or any other nerdy thing, maybe you'll like this.

Before Princess Peach there was Pauline, but Mario dumped her!

I bought a chest made out of brass and tin today, it was very unusual looking and on £5.

Amy just opened it and found these books in there. I am so very curious to get home and look at them.

Anyone heard of Virtue’s Household Physician ?

See the world through frosty eyes,
Beauty is found in the crystalline,
Obscured though its icy touch,
How much cold is too much?
And at this dark time of the year,
The light feels far, it’s not near,
And so I watch though frosty eyes,
Until the winter says goodbye.

The Vallakin

At the heart of this mysterious county lies the Vallakin, an otherworldly nexus known for the hauntings of a thousand generations. As the portal to the depths of Hookland's arcane history, the Vallakin is a place where the ditch between the seen and the unseen is gossamer-thin, allowing those who dare to enter to traverse the boundary between the tangible and the ethereal.

Journeying through the Vallakin, one is enveloped by an atmosphere thick with the whispers of ancient spirits and the echoes of forgotten tales. The air itself seems to hum with the resonance of folklore, a chorus of myths and legends that have woven themselves into the very landscape. As you traverse this mystical gateway, you may encounter the spectral remnants of bygone eras, the phantoms of historical figures, and the echoes of events that have left an indelible mark on the county's soul.

It’s a frosty morning here on the Island, Þorri danced through the streets last night.

The sun is rising, but ever so gently, as is her want at this time of year. But, every lane way, every nook and every cranny welcomes the touch of warmth and light.

Just a reminder, I have written music that’s inspired by the last day of Arwald, the last British pagan king and the last king of the Isle of Wight.

Oh how I love crows; I love to caws they make; hearing them in the mornings transports me back to my childhood.

When I hear a single crow calling from a naked tree in the dead of winter — it’s pure magic. It is the personification of the night magics and it tugs on my very heart strings.

I have written a new song, a tribute to the last British pagan king and the last king of the Isle of Wight. It is inspired by his last battle.

Yo anti-vaxxers 2024 is here and it’s a year after the “vaccine” was supposed to have killed me. I’m still alive!

Any comments?

Rædgiefa The Fox King

A new track from my up-coming album about the old gods and the magic of the year; each song will come with a short story about it. I am hoping to produce a physicals book and some form of physical media for the music.

Tomorrow I am sitting down with my vocalist to go through the first 5 songs and maybe lay down some demo tracks.

This song is about the Fox King, Rædgiefa -- The Giver of Good Counsel. It is said that he comes to those that need him, not when they seek him.

He spreads the deep magics of the Old Gods and protects the wisdom of ages gone. He protects the sacred burial site of the last British Pagan King, Arwald, where he rest until needed again on the Isle of Wight.

Just a friendly reminder: Homework is NOT a statutory requirement and there is not a legal requirement for schools to set homework. Most importantly parents are NOT required by law to make their children complete it.

wihtlore,
@wihtlore@thefolklore.cafe avatar

@Old_Red_Dog well I hope they know it because a lot of schools put kids in detention and threatened parents if they’re children dont do homework.

wihtlore,
@wihtlore@thefolklore.cafe avatar

@peterbrown where I live I am currently on a one man crusade to get schools to stop giving kids homework. People have some very tired and terrible ideas when it comes to homework here.

The wheels are turning and time is moving; for us it is the start of a new year, but for the old gods it is part of their long sleep. The night maybe shortening but the cold still runs deep.

For get the vows we make to ourselves, honour the deep magics of the season instead — Æftera Geol-monaþ: the second passing still continues.

I know I’ve quiet, but I’ve been working on a concept album for the magic year for the Jutish / Anglo / Saxon people. I have just finished the music for Mōdraniht — Mother’s Night (tonight) where we celebrate the great mother goddesses: Frigg, Hreða and Éostre.

Who wants to hear it?
