If you can subscribe to communities on other instances than the one you're registered with, why register on one vs another?

I am new and trying to understand how Lemmy works. I am posting this from my lemmy.world account, on a lemmy.ml community. It seems like you can read, post, subscribe to whatever community outside of the instance you're registered with. So... Why register on lemmy.world vs lemmy.ml or any other instance, if all communities are...

Is there a way to create Super Communities?

I've noticed in the explosion that we are getting duplicate communities in multiple instances. This is ultimately gonna hinder community growth as eventually communities like 'cats' will exist in hundreds of places all with their own micro groups, and some users will end up subscribing to duplicates in their list....

Use of the Fediverse. (lemmy.ml)

Alright! So one fine day I decided to check the Fediverse out and eventually joined mastodon. I've downloaded the Megalodon app on my phone and everything. And now I'm at a loss on what to do with it. In reality, how do you use Mastodon? I've never used Twitter before, so I'm completely new to this form of social media. All I...

The way I use reddit is usually for recommendations, reviews, technical problems, etc. One main way to do this is to search a subreddit or all of reddit to see if the answer is already there. Is there a way to have a similar search on Lemmy ? I can't seem to get this to work. It only searches for communities and not posts within...

For everyone new to Lemmy, how are you finding the experience?

I wanted to get a pulse check on how new members are finding the general experience/website. Is it more confusing than Reddit or are you finding the instance system a better way of doing things as it can give you more freedom of where you choose to create an account?...

Im new, and wonder why we don't see more reposting

It seems like these communities are a lot more focused on original content than reddit somehow, unless i'm missing something. Like, Mastodon seems to have loads of bots reposting stuff straight from twitter. I guess i'm wondering why i don't see more reddit content bots, or shameless reposts. Is it to save server space? Is it...
