It would be funny of Lemmy had some kind of lore about a hero creator, like John Mastodon. Who dou you ppl think we could raise to such position ? Should they be someone fictional or do you think we should go with Lemy Kilmister ?
For example, I want to join a Today I learned community but when I search for it, I come across 4 of them on different instances....
Personally, I think Questionable Content, Kevin and Kell, and Dumbing of Age are great for this. They all have a ton of history, and Kevin and Kell is actually one of the longest running webcomics ever.
or another way to ask it, what made fedi easier for you to adopt? I don't think the answer is better ways of explaining how federation exactly works, because no matter how good of an analogy you can make, most users don't care and just want to know how to get started...
You continue to meet expectations...
So, if I want to post something on, say, the Technology community o. Midwest.Social, is it good/bad etiquette to also post it on the Technology community on another instance like Lemmy.ml or beehaw.org?
This question is especially for people who have joined in the last week. Have you used other fediverse platforms or is this your first time really using one? What do you think of it so far? Are you aware that you can comment on Lemmy posts with a Mastodon account?
Personally I think not having karma limits is nice currently! I understand why they were used but grinding karma as a lurker on reddit was frustrating.
My favorite kind of music has been Ska ever since I was a little kid! What kind of music is your favorite?
Aside from (formerly) Reddit and (now) kbin, what are some of your favorite go-to websites, whether for information, wasting time, etc?
I hate the damage that Apple seems to have done in this regard. I also hate it when apps hide features because "they're for power users and regular users won't understand them"....
Hi! Brand new Lemmy user here!...
Not sure I've actually seen one but would love to try to create one. Are there any samples/guides about it?
For me its having a single instance that indexes all the communites to which all other instances can then pull that information from so when I go searching for communities the I’ll have access to every single one with needing to post the entire URL in the search bar
I remember a thread on the network that shall not be named wit this question that brought me much joy. I'll start with a couple I remember:...
So theres a warning "Warning: If you deselect Undetermined, you will not see most content." which doesnt make sense to me when creating a post....
I like lemmings but it might be a bit derogatory. Even with that I still think it's better than 'redditors', which always sounded/looked goofy to me....
Some examples from my personal experience:...
it’s little annoying. is there same behavior on other web apps? i want to try them sometime but i better to know before trying them all.
As a favorite time waster site implodes, I’m sure many of us are in the market for a hobby.
These were always the best AskReddit questions, fake or not, so let’s hear ‘em.
I just don't get how Lemmy is going to act as a proper replacement for Reddit....
I don't want to come off as preachy, and I love the waves of new users. I'm just concerned about the stability of the Lemmy userbase if the highest commented posts stay "I'm leaving reddit" and "things reddit did" type threads....
When you upload an image in the URL bar when creating a post, where does it go? Are they hosted on the respective Instance of the community?
For me it feels like breaking up with someone after many years. At the same time, I feel a bit dirty mentioning the name in the post title.
