Not sure how I feel about these things, they are kind of just a show piece. Most engineered wood products use a melamine formaldehyde resin as a binder. Melamine can off gas VOCs.
It is definitely cool but I find these kinds of products to always feel a little like green washing.
I thought for a second this was a mass revival of wooden bicycle rims. But now that I’m thinking about it, the advances in laminate wood products might make it feasible to bring back the concept. The bicycle rim’s application as part of the wheel’s tensile structure is highly amenable to the strong, lightweight yet compliant properties of wood, for the same reasons they were used in bicycle wheels from the late 19th Century.
A new Honda CB500F is 7090€, incl. LED lights, fender, mirrors, 2 seats, front & rear disc brakes, ABS, emergency stop signal ESS, 48 PS.
The bicycle price is in the premium motorcycle range where you get more features and power. I can only imagine the bicycles are maybe fully handmade? And maybe limited edition?
It’s none of these. OneUp Components EDC, with the tubeless plugs inserted into an EDC pump. Expensive as all get out, but it’s no joke how many times this combo has saved my ass on the side of some mountain.
Oof, kind of hard to generalize, since they really come in so many styles. The most basic ones… well, like a cow. But you get used to it. Just don’t expect to make a quick turn 😂
There’s also a trend for much shorter ones with smaller wheels, those ride really nice and nimble but the small tyres make your pedal much more (which isn’t that bad with an ebike), e.g. www.yoonitbikes.com/yoonit-electric
You really need to ride a few and see what’s your preference.
Yikes. Yeah I’ll stick with my ENGWE lol. I’m sure it’s great but I don’t do a ton of mountain biking these days and I was going to drop big bucks, it’d probably be on a nice cargo bike.
However at a starting price of $6k it’s a tough pill to swallow. Can’t wait for more bikes like this to make it to mainstream and drive the price down of roadie style e-bikes.
