justafrog, 25 days ago @CelloMomOnCars A lot of countries outside of Europe already have large-scale desalination to supplement the simple absence of sufficient fresh water. It's going to have to happen in Europe too, now that 6-month droughts have become a fact of life.

CelloMomOnCars, 25 days ago @justafrog Desalination is still pretty expensive, so it's great for drinking water but maybe not for large-scale uses such as agriculture, or indeed any thermal power plant, including those French nuclear reactors.

justafrog, 25 days ago @CelloMomOnCars Spain actually does use it for agriculture already. For example, there's a plant in Torrevieja producing 240'000 cubic meters a day, half of which goes into irrigation. There are many smaller plants in operation in Spain, as well as more planned, with varying levels of irrigation use.
