For me an “AI” translator would be amazing, being able to read any lang in the world definetly it’s a must go.

____,

LibreTranslate has an API and a pretty solid docker image. How about building a browser ext that hooks into it, either a public instance or one’s own?

That’s not a feature I want server side, but I def see the utility of it. I just want more control over my data and more options.

Thx for the info mate 👍👍

WhataburgerSr,

More users when Reddit does something so stupid that people will leave in millions.

I only learned about Lemmy from word of mouth at work. I wonder if there’s a way to engage on Reddit in a way that will help migrate people to communities here? (Maybe that would violate Reddit rules, but certainly linking to Lemmy isn’t entirely disallowed, no?)

caseyweederman,

People were getting banned for talking about Lemmy on Reddit

oof, that’s not good

To think that the reddit ceo is mad about such a small userbase compared to theirs. childish behaviour.

Something that makes my feet better. Right now I’m just seeing politics 24/7, and all the other places I’m sub practically never show up in the feed.

hruzgar,

you can select “subscribed” so you only see the lemmy communities you are subscribed to.

I personally looked at the top 1000 posts from the “all” feed. And subscribed to all communities which im even slightly interested in (i can unsubscribe later if i decide otherwise). So now I can see all relevant posts to me on my “subscribed” feed.

I’m also planning to go through this process every few months or so to discover new communities which didn’t exist before.

@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

I’m aware of the subscribed only view, but the problem is I also want to see new posts from new forums I may not be aware of.

I just don’t want to see 24/7 politics. I would like more of a mix.

Die4Ever,

start banning communities, I think you’ll thin out the posts you don’t want to see quickly

CosmicCleric, (edited )
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

That’s just it, I don’t mind the politics community, I just don’t want to see it all the time in my feed 24/7.

If like every 10th post was from that community then I wouldn’t have a problem. So I don’t want to ban it out right.

RizzRustbolt,

IPO.

;p

ChasingEnigma,

An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is the process through which shares of a private company are made available to the public for the first time, allowing the company to raise equity capital from public investors. This transition from private to public enables private investors to realize gains and allows public investors to participate in the offering.

give it a thumbs up so the devs know you want it github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/2317

CbtB,

I hope to be able to sort by most active discussions.

Die4Ever,
@Die4Ever@programming.dev avatar

are you talking about something different from the Active sort?

CbtB,

Active is good but I’d really like a Rising sort or some way to filter by most new comments in the past hour.

Wanderer, (edited )

Maybe you can do this now I’m not sure but if you can let me know. (Voyager app)

I’d like to know what instances are deferated from.

I’d like to browse other instances as a guest. Just view before I set up an account.

Maybe save a comment I can respost. Sometimes I end up saying the same comment 2 months apart. Or to just search my comments.

aeharding,
@aeharding@lemmy.world avatar

In voyager you can browse an instance as a guest by logging in without filling in username or password.

Wanderer,

I’m stupid. Can you give be a quick step by step guide on how to do that please?

I once seen a post of the most defederated instances and I wanted to check them out. But I couldn’t figure out how to few them without signing up.

Remember there was a couple if “free speech” ones I wanted to look at.

aeharding,
@aeharding@lemmy.world avatar

There’s a bit more info here under guest accounts.

Essentially you go to log in as normal and when it prompts for username and password, just press submit.

intensely_human,

The current feature set is fine with me. I hate it when my social media platforms change in their behavior.

My preference would be for no new features.

I understand that makes for a difficult call when there’s a development team who’s been dedicated to a project.

Lifecoach5000,

In app notifications or emails for reports to mods. I honestly can’t believe this hasn’t been addressed. If someone knows something I don’t, please correct me.

Reddit Lemmy Enhancement Suite. Loved RES for it’s ability to tag users, style tweaks, and all the other functions on that other site, would be awesome to see it here as well.

____,

Yep, RES was pretty awesome. I seem to recall having engaged them and suggested something similar when things were going down and they didn’t have much interest.

Would probably be a ground-up project considering the APIs and element tags are almost certainly all different and don’t map 1:1 reliably. That’s not a point against doing it, just an observation that it doesn’t have to be tied to the original.

Hide post and multiple images

Flax_vert,

I’d love multi communities. So you can maybe have a community mirror posts from another. Perhaps they can do this to avoid the fragmentations

intensely_human,

Lemmy is decentralized. Fragmentation is a good thing because it makes cyberspace mimic real space. Glomming every discussion of X topic into one discussion of X topic isn’t necessarily a positive.

ChasingEnigma,

The problem is that there are so many different ideas to do that that I doubt they are anywhere close to reaching a consensus. There was the user created multi-communities idea, another about moderators being able to subscribe a community to another, and a few others.

Here is the main discussion:

Option to always open posts in new tab and disallow opening in same tab.

Middle mouse button click will do that on Firefox and Chromium on Linux and I’d assume other platforms, if you’re not aware.

I open almost everything in almost all sites in a new tab.

How to click middle mouse button on Android?

3volver,

The ability to sort by controversial and most downvoted.

ChasingEnigma,

Controversial was added on 0.19 release. This is the pull request.

3volver,

Still doesn’t show up on lemmy.world UI though.

IHateReddit,

that’s because lemmy.world is still on 0.18, but it will be upgraded in two days

3volver,

Thanks for that information, and I appreciate the downvotes for making a perfectly valid statement at the given time.
