What we really need to do is de-growth, abandon cars and trucks, and start walking/bicycling, reduce transportation emissions post haste, and halt all fossil fuels energy generation. But, I suspect we're not going to be able to do so and the environment is going to force us to attempt to react. Planetary, species-wide IQ test, which we are failing.
Basically we need a big "Carbon Added Tax", supplanting/replacing the most regressive taxes (Social Security & Medicare), to internalize the externalities. The best time to do it was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.
@ai6yr It amazes me how everyone keeps talking about making transportation more difficult, but nobody seems to mention about insulating our houses and other buildings.
What is the point of heating or cooling poorly insulated buildings? It is huge waste of energy.
@oh8hub It's not one or the other... it's "all of the above". However (at least in the US), a huge chunk of the carbon emissions are tied to gasoline usage.
