LeftistLawyer,

Pretty sure needs to kick the living shit out of humanity at least two or three times before we internalize Aldo Leopold's sufficiently for humanity to live sustainably on this planet.

Sorry folks.
We just don't cut the evolutionary mustard. Carrying capacity is a harsh master.

I wish your family's genes good luck in the coming

@LeftistLawyer

Seems like a healthy trend. Nothing to worry about here.

@LeftistLawyer It already did. Several civilisations in the past ran out of natural resources and died off. We're too arrogant to learn...

MySideIsHumanity,

@LeftistLawyer I'm reminded of an anime where Earth's verdict on humanity is to start creating nigh-unstoppable giant insectoid monsters. At the end the only ones left are a relatively-tiny handful of those willing to live at peace with the planet, and the Earth stops creating monsters to kill them.

Shufei,

@MySideIsHumanity @LeftistLawyer Nausicaa Valley of the Winds. A wonderful Miyazaki film.

  • Shufei,

    @LeftistLawyer @MySideIsHumanity Yes, Nausicaa is set in a mid term post-apocalypse future where most of the new ecosystems are based on mutant fungi. I can’t say more than that without spoilers! It’s one of his best, full of care and Miyazaki’s Shinto animistic-naturalism. (I always cry when the river god in Spirited Away is finally clean!)

    Thematically it's similar to Princess Mononoke. Nausicaa is my favorite of Miyazaki's works.

    It's older and the graphics aren't as slick (still totally gorgeous obviously), but I like the characters and story a bit better. Nausicaa herself is a delight, the kind of character little girls should get to see a lot more often.

    Why not? Everything else there makes sense to me, but that part doesn't. There will still be plenty of petro-carbons left to burn until well after at least the first collapse.

    @LeftistLawyer well, obviously that post-apocalyptic neolithic society would have to go through the same developmental stages we went through to get to it, and again they would probably start with coal because it's easy to reach in many places?

    @LeftistLawyer Well, yes. Obviously. Do you doubt that?
