Happy anniversary iPhone!

On this day in 2007, the iPhone was released! What a magical time it was. Really, it set the smartphone industry as we know it today in motion.

What do you remember about that day? What was your first experience with an iPhone?

hagarashi8,

@kylewritescode posts like this make me realize how young i am.
Like, you think you was old enough to care about some phone release in 2007.
And I was like 4.

@hagarashi8 Wow you are young. Lol. I was 2 years out of high school. 💀

I can't remember precisely which RelayFM podcast I was listening to yesterday, it might have been the ATP annual member's show, anyway, the hosts went through every iPhone and rated them on that popular S-F scale. It's was a fun episode.

@Jack Sounds like an episode ATP would do.

It must have been because it was Casey, Marco, and John.

MichelleG,

@kylewritescode I still have that original iPhone. Surprising, it still turns on.

I waited in line at an AT&T store and was only the 5th person in line. I knew the Apple stores would be jam packed so it ended up working out for me.

I spent most of the remaining day marveling at the screen and noticing how different it was from my Palm Treo and Windows CE devices.

Here’s my small collection of PDAs and older iPhones.

@MichelleG That’s amazing! I wish I still had the OG iPhone. BTW, I have the iPhone 4s framed and also the Apple Watch from Grid Studio.

markrod,

@kylewritescode its not so much what I remember from that day as the obvious effect that human consciousness is divided into before-phone and after-phone, and the after is not a good place.

@markrod Care to elaborate on that?

markrod,

@kylewritescode sure. The coupling of social media gaze harvesting algorithms and smartphone screens has caused a global shift in consciousness that is narcissistic obsessive and frequently delusional, google social media psychosis. It is the combination that is lethal.

@kylewritescode I was at a mall in Houston, TX for the launch and sat in the store for about an hour playing with one, then decided to purchase one due to how fascinating it was. I knew from that day that mobile phones would forever be changed.

I still feel today that Steve Jobs was one of the smartest individuals ever. An absolute genius!
