#distrohopping has forced me to keep ALL of my data on my #NAS or cloud storage, and I’ve realized that this is the exact same idea as #IMAP for email, something that I’ve been a fan of since the bad old days of POP.
Now it seems I’m on a quest to carry as close to ZERO data with me as possible when I leave the house so if something is lost or stolen, I’ve only lost an easily replaceable device.
@davidoclubb I’m hosting Nextcloud myself on an old Mac Mini with an external storage array attached. $0/month for $4TB. Yes, it’s more work on my part, but not that much.
@davidoclubb I’m actually still trying to figure that part out myself! My array is mirrored, so I’m not completely unprotected, but I haven’t yet worked on backing everything up to my NAS because I’ve been thinking of switching from Ubuntu to Debian on my server.
