In "After the Dark Star" you get around by atomic rocket and for the interior design I want a real late-40s/early 50s aesthetic. Major examples are from art by Noel Sickles in LIFE's 14/1/49 issue and Hergé's famous moon rocket.

I'm intrigued that both go greebly, but in a distinct way from the post-Star Wars look we see today.

Key to this style, I think, is that the SF of the time period aimed for plausibility (glossing over some) as opposed to, say, Buck Rogers earlier.

The control room of the rocket in Hergé's Moon duology Objectif Lune/On a Marché Sur la Lune. Key elements are a bunch of analog control panels around the walls, some sort of projectction screen in the centre axis, and a hatch leading to the lower decks.
