@vik I don't see any argument for reverting (Your "needs to back down") to dirty fuel there.
The proposal mentioned in the paper is doing something different:
"one such strategy to slow global warming, called marine cloud brightening, would see ships inject salt particles back into the air, to make clouds more reflective"
