@mkennedy aren't all browsers for iOS required to just be skinned safari?

@lewiscowles1986 @djotaku Yes, but most don't offer this level of blocking/privacy. Or let you add from about 50 ad/tracker blocker lists and import your own. See images.

@mkennedy @djotaku
Apple will nerf anything that stops their cash monies from ads and selling their users data.

I'm glad you like vivaldi and it makes you happy. This is more about Apple predatory policies than vivaldi or it's team.

@lewiscowles1986 @djotaku I understand the sentament. But I'd say it's blocking them too. See the image:

Indeed, lets see how long for, and at which user level it tips.

I've seen this happen with companies whose sole job it was to block ads. Vivaldi also wants to be a browser company and offer other features.

@mkennedy according to Cory Doctorow's The Internet Con - it's still webkit as the rendering engine since that's an Apple requirement.

@djotaku Yes, I know. That's a super sad point on iOS. I wish it was "pure" vivaldi.

However, it has way better ad/tracker blocking than Safari/Chrome/Firefox and syncs with my beloved desktop Vivaldi so they sync is a big deal for me.

Was using Firefox (err skinned webkit) before but the sync and blocking is good stuff.

That said, it's a bit slow unfortunately. Probably that'll improve.

@mkennedy that's true. And sorry for assuming you didn't know. I just learned that fact and it really pisses me off.

@mkennedy Is it good? I'm using Firefox iOS, its worse than on Android, much more limited. Is Vivaldi iOS good?

mkennedy,
@mkennedy@fosstodon.org avatar

@astroboy It's both better and worse. It has the excellent Vivaldi ad/tracker blocking with the ability to add many more custom block lists. It syncs with desktop vivaldi which is good. But it's kinda slow.

@mkennedy Oh, OK. I'm thinking of trying Vivaldi. When did you switch from Firefox to Vivaldi, do you remember how many years ago was that?

mkennedy,
@mkennedy@fosstodon.org avatar

@astroboy Highly recommended (at least for desktop). Great privacy, a company I can get excited about, better compatibility, and super fast these days. I think I switched about 2 years ago.

@mkennedy Nice! Thanks! What were you using on iOS before Vivaldi became available there?
