I am about to finish my internship and I don't know what to do now. I wanted a position that is not available at the moment and the ones available pay well but I don't want to do them. It's among the best paid stuff in my location but it's also something I don't particularly care about.

I don't know if I should just let go and seek something else in my field, or just take a position I don't really like and get money, and wait for the position I actually want

@joel I'll suggest you to take what is available and wait for the right opportunity!

You don't have to care about it. Take the best-paying job available and do it just well enough to be slightly better than your coworkers. You don't have to care about it; it's just a job. Do the job, get paid, and find meaning/purpose/fulfillment outside of your day job. That's what I've been doing my entire adult life, and it's worked reasonably well for me.

hypolite,

@starbreaker @joel I second that sentiment, chasing fulfillment in your day job exposes you to exploitation (more than the usual under capitalistic rule).

Do what you like on your free time, without the profitability constraints of a commercial job or a “side hustle”, it’s the best way not to start hating it.

@joel It all depends on your financial situation. If you can go without an income then fine, but if not then take what you can while looking for what you want.

@joel You're still in school, right? IMO there's no harm in taking a job you might not love for a bit, especially while classes are still a priority. On the other hand, having relevant experience gives you something to talk about later on when looking for the job you do want.

@joel 100% take it, if it's the same field and just something you don't like. On the job experience is more valuable than anything else when it comes to finding work, it will make it much more easier to get a job that you do enjoy.

Edit: Taking this doesn't mean you have to stay until the position you want becomes available, you can get the experience and look for something else in a year or two.

Edit2: Maybe not if you want to code but the job is technician

@joel never let "perfect" be the enemy of "I guess that's not that awful". 😂

@joel I think that you should take a position that is available now, to get some money. You can still search for another job, but you will have a salary when you search

@sabrinaweb71 gripe is, position I want: be in front of computer.
Position available: maintain and fix industrial machinery as technician.

kaan,

@joel @sabrinaweb71 Are you graduating soon? Do you need the money?

@joel will this position leave you enough spare time to keep looking for another job?

joel,

@sabrinaweb71 two 8 hours shifts from Monday to Saturday, I guess yes?

@joel have you looked at remote opportunities? What's your focus?
