Back in Melbourne for the first time in 40 years, riding the light rail across town, and thinking “How funny — all the suburbs are named for Aussie Rules teams!”

@ct_bergstrom in Melbourne it’s a tram, not light rail. It’s a crucial point of distinction between Melbourne and Sydney, and terribly important to be seen to be on the correct side of the nomenclature, lest you be accused of fraternising with the enemy.

Welcome to our border wars. :)

Cakes are made out of batter. Potato scallops aren't cakes.

@auscandoc @ct_bergstrom I like to think back to better times when the local universe was bounded by Hawthorn and North Melbourne and consumption was being treated with over the counter curalls consisting of morphine, cocaine, mercury, and radium.

@auscandoc @PieterPeach @ct_bergstrom I went to watch a game at the MCG once. Throughly enjoyed it - a bit quirky, but what sport doesn't have its quirks. Seems odd hasn't been taken on elsewhere in the world, but maybe that is also its charm.

@gpollara @auscandoc @ct_bergstrom the notion of awkwardly bouncing an oblong leather football off the ground, and one where you’re not allowed to throw it (only pass it by hand balling it) is strange when you think about it, but something we’ve become accustomed to. A bit like when we watch Gaelic football.

@gpollara @auscandoc @ct_bergstrom and apologies for the weather. By this time of year we’re usually basking in heat and under water restrictions with the bitumen boiling under our feet. The last 2-3 years have been unusually wet.
