"If someone goes to a protest event, they should be held responsible for what other people say at that event."

I'm somewhat agree. I think there's a difference in kind between going to an event with questionable organizers or speakers, and going to an event where some fringe players also attend and say questionable things.

@evan these questions are driving me up the wall - not your fault or problem.

I have my initial thought, and then I think about counter points and then I settle on "I strong agree, disagree somewhat disagree agree." It depends and if pushed my answer would have to be "yes, get a puppy"

Thank you for making me think, I think.

@jonoabroad hey, so, for some people that's a pleasant experience. For others, it's really frustrating. Feel free to skip these polls if they're making you feel bad.

@evan sorry, that was meant to be tongue in cheek.

Thinking is good :)

@evan I put "somewhat disagree." The issue is that people who go to protests see the date and topic in advance; nobody knows who the organizers or speakers are (for example, I can't name you a single person involved in the leadership of except Greta herself and I don't think she's organizing the demos).

Where I am "somewhat" and not "strongly" is that it matters what the applause lines, most common slogans on posters, etc. are, and if they suck, it does impugn the protest.

@evan NGL if you were able to turn off replies, this would have been a smidge more scientific lol

@evan This is too vague to answer accurately. If you go to any protest over a certain size, you’ll encounter some fringe folk with utterly wretched beliefs. This is a simple fact. You can’t really discredit any protest for having such a fringe.

You can reasonably judge based on the number and proportion of such groups, and the reception they’re given, formally and not.

@evan I chose somewhat agree, but feel closer to strongly agree. I see this as very similar to hashtags in bio's etc. If you support a cause, you should understand what is being done in its name.

I've been called out too many times for NOT supporting a cause with people demanding an explanation, but every time I knew more about what was being done in the name of that cause than the people demanding my explanation.

If people feel strongly enough to protest, they should be informed.

@evan
Depends upon the event.

If I attend a "Pro-Nazi" rally where everyone is holding Tiki torches and shouting "Jews will not replace us!", then you are Damn right you should be held responsible for taking part in that.

@MugsysRapSheet you should probably cw that image
