The great thing about being an Atheist is that you don’t need people threatening you with hellfire and damnation for you to be a decent person. You just choose to be that way.

gr0k,
@gr0k@gr0k.net avatar

@HamonWry a lot of atheists I know aren't decent people at all. They've just replaced religion with social justice so they can feel morally superior while running around yelling at people (and worse)

“Entropy applies to every part of our lives. ... Understanding entropy leads to a radical change in the way we see the world. Ignorance of it is responsible for many of our biggest mistakes and failures. We cannot expect anything to stay the way we leave it. To maintain our health, relationships, careers, skills, knowledge, societies, and possessions requires never-ending effort and vigilance. Disorder is ... our default. Order is always artificial and temporary.”

I think the thing that is going to drive me off Mastodon is the one-eyed fedi superfans.

I've always known twitter can read my DMs but I also know they have a privacy policy backed up by strict privacy regulation in the US, EU and Australia.

The chap who runs my local instance is lovely but there's no privacy policy and no regulatory oversight. I don't even have a contract with him. I'd have to sue him in a private capacity if anything happened.

gr0k,
@gr0k@gr0k.net avatar

@engagedpractx @allrite or people should just take reasonable precautions like they should on every single other web site and service they use?

gr0k,
@gr0k@gr0k.net avatar

@engagedpractx @allrite a "take some responsibility" approach. They're called DMs not PMs.

gr0k,
@gr0k@gr0k.net avatar

@allrite @engagedpractx like I said, they're called DMs not PMs. Like you said earlier, they're not private on other services either. There may be greater repercussions when enterprise breaks user trust due to laws in certain territories, but they're still legally using your data to train AI, serve you ads, etc etc. The proposal that we remove DMs because they aren't totally secure is roughly equivalent to suggesting we should get rid of electronic payments for the same reason

Just saw someone arguing that Mastodon should proactively prevent people from posting selfies on the public timeline.

Apparently, people just do not understand that the risk the someone might do something nefarious with them is just too high.

The mind boggles.

gr0k,
@gr0k@gr0k.net avatar

@Edent people really are opposed to taking responsibility aren't they...

Perhaps these people would be better off on Facebook...

i think psychopathy + empathy have to be equal when im writing or picturing

i have to be willing to sacrifice the thing in order to tell the truth + i have to also love the thing (to tell the truth about it)

i have to be neither of these (basically set to receive) i am most essentially a delivery piece when making art

gr0k,
@gr0k@gr0k.net avatar

@dirt if you "have to be willing to sacrifice the thing in order to tell the truth" do you take or make a picture?

(Also, I agree with everything you wrote here)

@dirt Apologies, I got caught up with work and missed your original message!

No need to apologise, or censor yourself with me tho. Love your work, and enjoy reading your thoughts.

Hope I wasn't too provocative haha. One day perhaps we'll share a smoke a chat!

Have a good one ❤️

I love this community because I know that it loves back... If you're a believer in value-for-value model and appreciate my contributions in the show-art rhealm, I could use your help. I recently launched a project called "Double Agent Diaries" on Instagram. It's a spy thriller told through daily posts (read the posts... don't just stare at the lovely boobs). I'd love you support with a follow and a share. You can find it here:

    gr0k,

    @evan I chose somewhat agree, but feel closer to strongly agree. I see this as very similar to hashtags in bio's etc. If you support a cause, you should understand what is being done in its name.

    I've been called out too many times for NOT supporting a cause with people demanding an explanation, but every time I knew more about what was being done in the name of that cause than the people demanding my explanation.

    If people feel strongly enough to protest, they should be informed.

    I don't get it. Why are we all raising flags? What's the use in picking a side in a murderous endless war which the people don't want and nobody has ever won?

    I stand with anybody and everybody who wants an end to the cycle of violence and a peaceful solution in the Israel-Palestine conflict.

    @ProjectFearlessness not just the Israel-Palestine conflict, but any conflict. There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.
