@mia Care to comment on the fediblock going around for emmaverse and void.rehab? Resource abuse like that is pretty bad etiquette and as the admin of both instances, without an adequate explanation, lots of folks will be inclined to block both
@neatchee@Arataka I don't think that post was planned or connected to it. I think the person posted that in the moment. Doesn't excuse it, but I don't think the whole thing should be labeled as a money scheme. I believe that the original poster also later deleted it.
@robustjumprope@Arataka it was boosted by the admin of the bad server (emmaverse), and deletion shows consciousness of guilt. Also the post's server is alt-fedi. The whole thing reeks and I'm not inclined towards splitting hairs in this situation.
@neatchee I completely understand the feeling. And sorry if that post came across as rude or anything. I'm not really trying to defend the person that made the post. I think I'm just conflicted because from the interactions I've had with mia, I don't feel like she is the type of person to do something like that. I could always be wrong though. I think I'm just going to hop off fedi for a little while because I feel kinda overwhelmed.
It just makes me respect you more though! I don't think I would have it in me to try and manage all of this at an admin level. That takes a lot of work trying to follow these situations and make the best decisions for the instance.
@robustjumprope don't worry, you didn't come off as rude at all. Sorry if I seemed terse, I was in the middle of a gaming session and trying to be quick about it. I totally understand the difficulty parsing everything. It's definitely complicated. So don't feel bad about taking a break. I also appreciate the kind words as it can definitely be a mess at times. But my highest priority is protecting the atmosphere we've created here, especially when other similar genre communities have such a bad reputation.
@robustjumprope And the unfortunate truth is that bad people don't look bad all the time. Abusers can be your neighbor or cousin. Shitty employers can look great from the outside. Racists can be really nice in every other context
I'll be continuing to monitor the situation and looking for Mia to respond in some way. But boosting an old fetty account and running a server specifically designed to flood databases with junk entries is a really bad place to start from
@robustjumprope@chikorita157 oh, and it turns out Mia has already confirmed that that the malicious server is hosted by the company mentioned in that boost.
@neatchee@robustjumprope@chikorita157 Yeah essentially the way I'm thinking about it is that if you are curious about testing something like this you don't do it by abusing other peoples resources. It's not an issue for me and won't affect my instance at all but I don't want this person federated with me in the event they end up doing something worse. Weird that someone so seemingly popular decided to enact this on other fedi instances.
