The EU forces Apple to allow 3rd party app stores and browsers. Apple comes with a schema that costs more money to maintain 3rd party app stores than the older official app store version. I think Tim Cook is an absolute madman for Malicious compliance. 😂

@nixCraft but not for old iOSes I guess :(

The Ipad Mini 2 is still fast enough to render modern sites.

The lawyers will make lots of money when this matter goes to court. I am pretty sure Apple consulted their lawyers, and they must have found some loopholes or have confidence that their case will win in court. Another possibility is they want to delay the whole thing as long as possible. There is lots of money involved for Apple, so they think it is worth fighting in the courts.

Remember, Apple doesn’t care about anyone other than shareholders.

@nixCraft Thank God for Android then ..

Android is marginally better but still pretty bad. To really be able to use the apps most people use you still need to have Google Play services installed.

@aiono @ninokadic @nixCraft Not really. In my experience, or with works OK for almost all apps I have tried.

AFAIK MicroG still uses Google servers. It's just client side code that's replaced.

@nixCraft it almost care about all the money they can made from other...

having a percent on sales, why not: they provide a service, there's servers and a llt of stuff to let the store running

but 30% fees.. even gov taxes are not so high 😅

wiredfire,
@wiredfire@mas.to avatar

@grum999 @nixCraft it’s that 30% top rate that’s the kicker! I don’t think many folk are upset that Apple have fees for taking advantage of their infrastructure, just that the fees are absurd

@nixCraft the EU has levied massive fines to maliciously compliant companies in the past (remember when Microsoft failed to provide SMB compatibility documentation? And tried to get away with "eh, we don't know either")
