Has anyone talked about the weird thing that Chrome does where when it's in dark mode some dark isn't the same dark as other dark? https://youtu.be/FzfGPQa4heA

@rem Do you have a link for your demo? I would like to test, that’s a behavior I’ve never encountered (yet). 👀

@meduz https://xmodem.isthe.link - canary (but it's been happening for ages, plus on previous versions of macos). I've seen it on many other websites, but this is the easiest to replicate

@rem Can’t reproduce on none of Chromium version (Brave, Edge, Chrome, Chrome Canary).

I asked a front-end friend: he told me he already encountered similar issues, and that it disappeared when disabling True Tone (monitor settings).

@meduz I've got an option called true tone, but I can't get to it :grrrr:

@rem Are you using a Mac Mini? True Tone is only for Apple screens, maybe. 🤔

Well, so it would mean the issue lies somewhere else. 😨

@meduz nope, macbook pro attached to large samsung monitor.

I've managed to get around it and actually settled the colours (finally) by selecting a completely generic colour profile (rather than the one for my display). It's a bit softer, but now I don't get macos messing with the colours.

@rem It seems to have something to do with <body> not having the full width of the viewport. But this shouldn’t matter because the <body> element’s background color propagates up to the viewport (or more precisely, the canvas) anyway*. Chrome is confused.

@simevidas right, it shouldn't matter. I don't know why chrome is adjusting the surrounding colour. It's definitely a rendering issue rather than in userland code.

@rem @simevidas Sounds like a compositing issue. Could you file a bug on crbug.com for this? Best to include link to testcase + the recording.

@bramus @simevidas turned out it was chrome+ monitor colour profile. I couldn't disable "true tone" but selecting a generic profile for my monitor fixed it/made it go away.
