Discover a world of learning with JSTOR!! 🌍📚

I would like to share a website I found the other day, a digital house of knowledge known as JSTOR!

Imagine having millions of academic articles, books, and crucial primary sources right at your fingertips. Whether you're diving deep into historical documents or exploring contemporary studies, JSTOR's extensive library is rich with opportunities for discovery and enlightenment.

I believe the beauty of learning lies in its accessibility. That's why, with JSTOR, numerous resources come at no cost. Ensuring that the pursuit of knowledge is an inclusive quest. 🌟
JSTOR Daily offers thought-provoking stories and insights into diverse subjects that resonate with our daily lives, bridging the gap between scholarly research and daily curiosity.Education is about empowering. JSTOR does just that by offering free courses like Research Basics to hone your academic research skills.

The JSTOR is infamous for being nasty. One of the very famous cases is their action against Aaron Schwartz which lead to his long prosecution and to thr extent that he ultimately took his own life under that pressure:

And

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Swartz

Aaron believed that science should not be behind paywall and should be accessible by general public. JSTOR on the other hand gets articles for free and charge readers!

@Mehrad

Well I didn't know that, and thank you very much for pointing it out!
I will take down the posts.

That was not my intention. All I meant to do was to clarify that JSTOR and OpenScience don't mix. They didn't historically, and they don't today either.

Yes, they have a large collection of scientific papers, but ...

I for one hate it when I have to apply for funding, do the actual hard work of research and get the results, then I have to formulate it in the format that journal wants, and on top of that pay them tons of money for "accepting" my manuscript!!

The journals have very very small cost because their material not only comes for free, it comes pre-formatted along with a beefy payment. They don't pay editors, reviewers,... Nothing. Just keeping their website up. They usually charge readers >30$ for letting them read the articles for which they already got money from the author.

The only slightly acceptable one I know is https://f1000research.com/ which does things more ethically and transparent.

@Mehrad
Yes does it properly but still it costs ~1K.
That is why I believe to that scientists have to change the Infrastructure they use for research publishing/review and funding.
We need a scientific network that university/state lends the infrastructure to keep research progress on it, instead of using private journals archiving our articles and data. The Infra is here: we just need to transform it to a social scientific network, hopefully will be one way.
