The Christian right wants social order where women are 2nd class & therefore opposes reproductive tech that allows women to have autonomy. The perception is that IVF is primarily used by lesbians, single women & women who waited until their 30s to marry.

"Conservatives view IVF as a cheat code for feminists who want to have children on their own terms. They would prefer a system where the only path to motherhood is being trapped with a Trump-voting husband who controls your checking account so you can't leave." -Amanda Marcotte

@amydiehl

IVF is associated with career women delaying pregnancy until later in life. The far right wants women to be barefoot and pregnant so that they're utterly dependent upon men. No wonder they hate IVF almost as much as abortion.

Conundrum: why are there Republican women? Is it akin to Stockholm Syndrome?

I grew up in a red state. Leaving aside decent people who left the GOP, and just speaking of Trumper women, they're abused into accepting inferior status from birth. But they're also brought up feeling entitled to white privilege. Their churches play a huge role in both, which is why I'll discuss this in religious terms. The cult of Trumpism is idolatrous worship of white skin and male sex. For the men, God is a rubber stamp for whatever they want...

...and for the women it's a way out of responsibility. As long as they are pleasing their husbands, no matter how cruel or violent that behavior, they're not responsible for anything they do. Some people think they put up with the sexism because they like the racism. Sure, they love the racism, but the sexism is actually more feature than bug. It's about getting out of accountability for moral choices. That's why when Moms for Liberty started getting...

@steveo1049 @TruthSandwich @amydiehl I'll add that what causes a woman in that culture to rebel against it is just empathy, pure and simple, and actually following the Gospel. I grew up in Fox News land and would not be drawn by the kind of demonization of others that Fox preaches. It's un-Christian. And I was a kid. Anybody can make that choice if I did.

To wind up in Moms for Liberty you have to hear endless hate spewed out for decades of life and think: "Sounds good if it butters my bread!"

@MaryAustinBooks When you say, "...for the women it's a way out of responsibility," I think that aligns with my belief that they are hoping to be protected by their proximity to white male power. In addition, internalized oppression is real, but I don't think it applies so much to white, female Trumpers. They seem to be actively deciding to follow this path, over and over again, so the main conclusion I draw is that they feel safe in this environment. @steveo1049 @TruthSandwich @amydiehl

These Christian fundamentalists have stepped on an extra large political rake that Democrats are going to help slam in the MAGA Republicans' faces come November.

I believe it was Markos Moulitsas (DailyKos.com founder) who 1st coined the term American Taliban to refer to Christian fundamentalists (or at least put it in print).

@amydiehl Why do some women go along with that? The only explanation I can see is that they don’t see it applying to them. This in turn implies bigotry and perceived “membership” in a privileged class.
Stories of real problems like those recently in Texas do,I think, provide a warning that there are dangers in this world they are trying to create.

@amydiehl What's especially crazy about this is that frozen embryos are at a stage of development that would be eligible for abortion had it developed naturally, in utero. Even the most asshole red states allow abortion up to 6 weeks, while an embryo is frozen at about the 1-week stage of development. Why are these people so gross and weird?
