Is anyone out there able to use Obsidian at all with a screen reader on Windows or Ios?

@halisonjl Tried it, not very successful. Sorry.

weirdwriter,

Can confirm! cannot be used with a screen reader on Windows. You can achieve the same result by manually making folders and text files in those folders though! I know other Blind people tried to get them to work on their app/software accessibility but they spent time to make the website fully accessible instead. I mean, this is still good, but still, the app just seems like a productivity powerhouse but I can't use it. No other Blind person can, on Windows, at this point. @pixelate @halisonjl

Coach8264,

@weirdwriter @pixelate @halisonjl Obsidian is difficult to impossible when using a screen reader. I just pulled down the current version and does not seem to have gotten better since the last time I tried it.

I use a variation of manually making folders and text files, like @weirdwriter suggests, except I use markdown (or sometimes html) files instead when I need use formatted text. If you do not use markdown already it is something worth learning how to do - and there are a lot of resources on the Internet for how to use it.

weirdwriter,

I love ! I have a whole text based workflow around it, and even use it for traditional publishing https://robertkingett.com/posts/6121/ @Coach8264 @pixelate @halisonjl

Coach8264,

@weirdwriter @pixelate @halisonjl @weirdwriter, that article is a fantastic resource! Please do continue to keep it up to date with your discoveries. If I had found it earlier it could have saved me work discovering things on my own - then again, I do like figuring things out so I might have done the same anyway, just with a better start point.

When I was considering my options for tools to (re)learn to use after my vision loss my primary focus was on regaining my ability to write code instead of documents as that was more central to the type of work I did at the time. While I found learning to use effectively with a screen reader to be a very frustrating and time-consuming process, it made sense at the time, and proved well worth it to me in the long run. After (re)learning to use it to code, discovering I could use it for as well was a very nice bonus. It is very web app like and can be very difficult to use with a screen reader without learning a library worth of hotkeys/key-binding/keyboard-shortcuts. If I had not already needed to learn them for coding, I don't know that I would have tried for writing documents alone. I have been consider switching to . Less telemetry definitely appeals to me.

Thanks again for referencing that article! I'll definitely be giving it a follow.

18+ weirdwriter,

Thank you! Yeah, I mainly use Jarte for now, but Microsoft eliminated the Wordpad engine so I have no idea how long this app will last but still, I absolutely love it! Even though you aren't a fiction writer, I also just updated this article on how to turn Shun Manuscript format using Pandoc. I do plan on updating the text accounting section soon because I've been playing around with some easier stuff but if you wanna see my writing workflow from text to professional manuscripts, this post explains how to. I wrote these mainly so I could go to my own website to reference something. LOL! But give it a look at https://robertkingett.com/posts/5926/ @Coach8264 @pixelate @halisonjl
