I think that there should be a law stating that you’re only allowed to call a new development XYZ Gardens if at least 50% of the area is covered in actual publicly accessible gardens, with trees and everything. And there should be a second law that at least 50% of all new developments must be named Gardens. #UrbanPlanning#cities#GreenSpace
@helenczerski Some local plans do have policies for public open space. Which doesn't mean that they're always followed, not even when that council itself is the developer (eg St Alban's rec).

In the US, we have the very strange habit (I shudder to call it "nostalgic"; it's pretty un-self aware) of using the word "plantation" in the names of new developments. 😬
@helenczerski and Embassy Gardens is an excellent example…there is some grass and a couple of transplanted trees although the coffee shop there is outstanding. I got shooed away by security because I was trying to take photographs of the swimming pool and it was “too near the embassy” apparently.
@helenczerski There is a condominium development in Singapore named Forest Woods.
For the life of me, I can't figure out whether the people who named it that can't see the forest for the woods or vice versa. 🙂
For more laughs, imagine living in another Singapore condominitm named The Rafflesia. In real life, is is a regional parasitic plant that blooms into one of the largest flowers in the world that attracts pollinators by smelling like decayed meat.
