The rain didn't stop until late today, but I was still able to get in some talks for my ! (1/14)

First was a great talk by Matthew Groh on evaluating human-AI collaboration at the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems - NICO. This is a good fine-grained evaluation of the effects of presenting experts with prediction metrics, in this case dermatology, but I'd love a larger exploration of interaction paradigms beyond providing a single number https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO62CE86Qaw&t=5s (2/14)

Next were rapid-fire agritech pitches at the Africa Tech Summit Nairobi (ATSN) - I particularly liked Ebun Feludu's pitch on Kokari Coconuts & Company https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oIA2RsJCNo (3/14)

Next was an excellent conversation with Bryan Choi on the problems and potential with NIST's software/AI frameworks and how they relate to NIST's historic evolution on @lawfare's podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bO6Ja8cuCA (4/14)

Next was a nice panel on African insuretech at with Jihan Abass, Gbenro Dara, and Elias Omondi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcCrv3rBiNM (5/14)

Next was an interesting talk by Kwabena Donkor on disentangling the effects of identity and true beliefs using economic incentives at the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfL2ecNwqaw (6/14)

Next was a good talk by Eugene Rwagasore on voice AI for underrepresented communities at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l21U125u71o (7/14)

Next was a timely talk by @rg and @mikarv (👋) on moderating AI model marketplaces at @bkc. This is an extremely important area that has mostly flown under the radar in academia and in the popular press, and this is the first serious treatment of these platforms that I've seen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4gfeBFUshI (8/14)

Next was an engaging panel on payments and lending in Africa at with Caroline Hane-Weijman, Peter Oriaifo, Mumbi Annstella, and John Egwu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLqhmv8EY8w (9/14)

Next was a short talk by Faez Ahmed on engineering design and AI at the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing (MITSCC) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJvfVBL9pCM (10/14)

bwaber,

Next was a thought-provoking talk by Daron Acemoglu on why it's important to exercise agency over tech development (and recognize that we have agency) at the Centre for the Governance of AI (GovAI) (it does get a bit AI doomerish after the initial talk unfortunately) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz37eST8hdg (11/14)

Next was an impressive talk by Song Han on designing new hardware for accelerating LLMs and generative AI at MITSCC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIzdziMnxlE (12/14)

Next was an important talk by @ampiper on rethinking design for accessibility at Stanford University. Piper presents interfaces that are grounded in extensive fieldwork that reveal the interactive nature of accessibility and also reveal new HCI paradigms. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cyg5S7l_rlg (13/14) #HCI #accessibility
