@LeftistLawyer
One problem with this line is that it works along the same lines as the carbon footprint idea created by BP, namely by shifting the blame for the polycrisis to individuals, in particular the least wealthy people on the planet.

    To directly answer the question; no. Not the 30% reduction. The point of the article was to highlight "how we live" has far more impact than "how many of us live".

    I suspect there is a way of living on this planet for 10bn people that would allow the planet to thrive (people included, but we would have to redefine human "thriving" away from iphones and more towards connection).

    I suspect but don't know. I am also fairly sure we will never find out because we not seriously addressing any one of the crises or their causes.

    No I haven't.

    I've said I will address the way I live to reduce my impact the best way I can.

    I have said I will not jump on the RW bandwagon calling for all the people in the global south and less developed countries to stop having children.

    Which countries populations are growing through child birth, yours or someone else's?

    People have finite energy and attention. If you can get them to focus on a lesser issue, e.g. their carbon footprint, then they will expend less energy focusing on big oil. Or get people to focus on coal mines in China and they will let the UK gov drill oil fields in the North Sea.

    Thus I don't think "both/and" is an option; I think the choice is between "either" or "neither", and hence these discussions serve certain parties as we by default choose neither.

    @LeftistLawyer thing is that whenever you see 'the world is over populated' being evoked it's never about areas of high population densaty in the global north.

    @LeftistLawyer so talking about the ways that 'over population' has been used as a part of movements that have attempted to - literally - steralise african women is me nitpicking?

    do we ignore the history of this idea and what it has brought about? UN sacttioned interventions where food aid was reliant on women being steralised? seems we will accept anything from our place in the global north because of climate change.

    @LeftistLawyer i am not calling for inaction, i am calling for a movement that distributes justice globally, not one that brushes its own eugenic beleifs under the carpet.

    @LeftistLawyer sorry, mate: you can't use the language of eugenicist and murderiously racist colonialist movements and dismiss their history with a wave of your hand which is exactly what you are doing.
