Finally caught up on the end of S6 of and I have to say the season ended really strong. Loving Missy’s character development in particular. First Ep of S7 was great too. Looking forward to seeing how the series ends and how they’ll deal with Sheldon’s dad.

The moment we’ve all been anticipating on has finally arrived & I think Chuck Lorre regrets the path he wrote long ago on The Big Bang Theory for Sheldon’s father. My stomach was in knots all through this entire ep because I knew what was coming & yet when it came I still wasn’t prepared for it.

It’s a testament to everyone involved that the character of George Sr. became so beloved that no one wanted to see him die. Where do we go from here? 😰

@gedeonm I'd been dreading this moment. The final scene was heartbreaking, made more so by George being on the verge of realizing his coaching dream.

@lothcat All the actors played that scene incredibly especially Mary. Was upset that Georgie had just left the room. We didn’t get to see his reaction on camera. Just heartbreaking stuff.

@gedeonm Agreed, the actors' performances intensified the tragedy. Mary's reaction and expressions were devastating. The funeral is going to be hard to watch.

Watched the two part series finale of and I’m a complete mess.

@gedeonm I just binged the entire season yesterday flying home.

I’m glad that George got retconned into being a better person in Young Sheldon. He was only ever depicted through secondhand memories in TBBT and I like to think maybe it’s just the characters’ memories morphing over time as a result of the pain of his loss.

There was always something tragic about seeing them so tight-knit in early seasons knowing they’d all drift apart later.

@harpaa01 Yep me too. Lorre regrets some of the choices he made for Sheldon during TBBT and I think this was his way of fixing some of them. It was great.

@gedeonm did you also watch and enjoy The Big Bang? I assume so but I don’t know.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social avatar

@Ronnie Yep, I loved Big Bang, watched the entire series. So many nice nods in the Sheldon finale.

@gedeonm I watched a lot of it and liked it but missed much of it. I’ve been thinking about picking it back up one of these days… I’m also in season 4 of Law & Order: SVU so it won’t be any time soon, I suppose.

@Ronnie There was a very clever line in the Sheldon finale where Jim Parsons says that after his dad’s death he focused more on his father’s shortcomings. This was a clever Big Bang retcon to help explain why Sheldon never really spoke fondly of his dad during the series. I appreciated it so very much since George was obviously a GREAT dad and all his kids (even Sheldon) loved him. Lorre regrets much of the story he wrote for George but I’m glad he “fixed” this.

@gedeonm I'm hoping "he lived happily ever after" is an option. I worried about this plot point when the series first began and was destined to run forever. But now that they're wrapping early, leaving stories on the table, they just don't have to go there at all. On the other hand, The Georgie and Mandy Show, they'll get there someday, right?

gedeonm,
@gedeonm@mastodon.social avatar

@dldnh One way or another, yes. I personally feel it would be a huge cop out not to depict the death of George in Young Sheldon. It was a major point of motivation for Sheldon in Big Bang Theory as was Sheldon’s falling out with his brother.

They may only mention it at the very very end, they may do more, I’m not sure. I think Lorre owes it to the viewers to show us how he (and the whole family) deal with it personally. I’ve already got the Kleenex ready. 😢

@gedeonm We need more shows like Young Sheldon, Ted Lasso and Trying that provide “hope”!
