@fallenvalkyrie True. "Sideloading" makes it sound like you're doing something shady and unsupported, when in fact these programs are common wealth and, in congregation, are updated far more regularly than stock apps.
@fallenvalkyrie I feel like there is value in distinguishing between “installing from a default, trusted source” and “installing from wherever.” Not that the latter should be discouraged, but it does have different implications.
@fallenvalkyrie I don't really see F-Droid as sideloading, though I guess it technically is considered that? To me, sideloading is like… going to a website and downloading and installing an arbitrary app. So you'd sideload F-Droid because it's outside the default store, but then going forward, installing things from F-Droid is just installing them. Idk, it's a bit fuzzy, I guess.
The confusion happens, because the term is wrong. I can't stress enough how much we are being gaslit to use words that make no sense, and "sideloading" happens to be one of them.
@zleap To think that someone out there would be so dedicated to Windows as to pay to update from 10 to 11, just to restrict themself even further... @fallenvalkyrie
I am sticking with Mint, one of the young people at the stem group is sticking with Linux and Windows 10, I sent him the article posted ob here to what is planned for Windows 11 in this respect.
Problem is, people are probably not aware of alternatives or think they are too hard to use / install etc.
It is a challenge as a community we need to try and tackle without ending up down a rabbit hole of tech support.
@zleap@vintprox@fallenvalkyrie With windows 11 limiting what can run it so much, linux is becoming the only option for those who can't afford a brand new computer. I know I would be barred from doing any gaming if I was still stuck on windows.
