I have to wonder, do the people idly wondering why the US can't shoot down Russian drones/missiles directly in Ukraine the way they are shooting down Iranian drones/missiles in Israel WANT a nuclear war, or are they just too ignorant of the one ironclad rule of modern warfare (and too lazy to research it in the least) to know any better?
I wish people would just think about it a bit. I suppose it's different for anyone who came to any sort of adolescent or adult understanding of the world after the end of the Cold War. I mean, I recall "we can't fight a war with Russia because nuclear war is bad!" being not just the subtext but the literal text of early adolescent social studies/world history classes then, so it seems like common sense to me.
@Adam_Cadmon1 common sense that was thoroughly reinforced by every political science class (and I took A TON; qualified for a double major but didn't want to/couldn't afford to take the capstone class that was required to get the major), I might add.
Folks, a direct engagement with Russia (or China, or any other true nuclear power, tho the rest are allies) has a very high probability of escalating into the literal eschaton. We don't want that. No one wants that, except some batshit Xtians who are cheering for the end of the world.
Don't trust anyone cheerleading for a direct engagement with China or Russia. They are either pig ignorant or looking to bring about the end of the world. There are no other positions on this and no nuance.
@TheJen it's kinda terrifying reading posts where people seem to be seriously asking this question, or outright suggesting we just attack Russia, and seeing multiple replies cheering them on ...
