So. I got disgusted w xfinity and cut my cable. Kept the internet because .. in 2024, in San Francisco, there are no other options for high speed internet.. really.. that aside..
Now, I'm without live news. no msnbc, no cnn, etc. I'm looking around at options before I go back to my abuser, xfinity.
what have other people done.
I like having access to live news..

@jackhutton suppose you could try specific journo projects like Mahdi hassan's new thing, which you can subscribe to or you tube.
Honestly there's probably enough good content on YouTube you could get the same effect by finding and following real professionals using it as an outlet.
@jackhutton for Internet, are you in a Sonic served area? I have largely good words for them. Doesn't help with live TV news though... Is broadcast still a thing?
@jackhutton grin. Yeah, I was on a call with ad advocate who worked on LA's recent active transportation measure, and he talked about they weren't sure they were gonna make it, so they spent a ton of money on broadcast ads at the last minute, and I'm thinking "people still watch TV?"
@jackhutton I subscribe to the WaPo and my town's paper (online), and give a recurring donation to the regional alt weekly. Though the town paper subscription is kind of a pity thing, I'm also co-founder of a local org that sends a weekly what's happening email, and I'm tuned in to enough local politics that the paper is old news with a local advertised bias.
@jackhutton but I also try to be conscious of only consuming news I can act on, and so much real time news isn't actually useful for direct action or opinion formation.
