I'm not short of love for interesting hardware and novel interfaces efforts, but not if they're a thin wrapper around a scam. I hope this doesn't sink Teenage Engineering by association.

The real tragedy of this rabbit thing is that if they'd come out and just said something like "this is a clever interface physical interface for a bunch open source automation scripting now, it comes with a devkit and it's super easy to build a fun interface", I'd have been right there. Hackable little open source pocket thing with some fun tactile interface and future potential? Damn, yeah, sign me up.

But saying "AI!" and turning out to be some banal, closed automation thing? Just... nah.

@mhoye same - a polished UI for common tasks would be a perfectly reasonable achievement on its own.

@mhoye putting on the whole steve jobs act in that announcement video made it clear their approach was the opposite of the kind of demystified hackable thingy that i suspect is the version people would actually want

mhoye,
@mhoye@mastodon.social avatar

@jplebreton Everyone wants to be Steve Jobs announcing visionary products, and nobody wants to be Steve Jobs saying these products aren't shipping if they aren't good enough.

@mhoye did you get ToS nuked or something? This is a 404 for me

@glyph @mhoye I think that's the point

@aburka @mhoye I am missing the context of what this was

@glyph @aburka @mhoye or if you prefer: https://web.archive.org/web/20240424142701/https://github.com/rabbitscam/rabbitr1

Purportedly leaked source, which shows that this isn't some LLM based AI, it's just some simple automations using terribly security practices.

@unlambda @aburka @mhoye thanks a bunch!
