My Second Life neighbor deleted everything they built and is now selling the land for the equivalent of $200. I don't think I'm willing to pay that (nor do I want to pay an extra $22/month for having that much land) but maybe they'd be willing to sell a small portion of it to me so I could expand my house a bit.

@NovaSquirrel Y'know it's interesting that SL itself took something that could totally be free (virtual land space) and made capitalism out of it.

And the land is worth something purely because everyone agrees it's worth something. Fiat land space.

@frost I look at it from the perspective that you're renting server space, because Second Life continues to simulate the entire world and run all scripts regardless of if there's any players in a given space or not.

I would happily trade away the ability to have my scripts running when I'm not there in order to make everything cheaper or free, though I'm sure there's a ton of markup and it does not necessarily need to be as expensive at it is.
