Ceramics class!

I finished building my ring jug and I started on an abstract piece of pipes

One of my classmates suggested I should make a little mouse that fits in the pipes for fun. It's not attached, so it can be removed anytime

@MLE_online I don’t know why this made the Super Mario Brothers theme pop into my head

@MLE_online Nice. That abstract piece is going to seriously mess up future archaeologists’ brains.

@glebd We believe Californians of the early 21st century used this as part of an elaborate feces-sharing ritual, the details of which have been lost to time

@MLE_online i remember when i took apart my dust collection when i moved and spent hours playing with them

MLE_online,
@MLE_online@social.afront.org avatar

@misternineham this looks like it should be near a deep sea vent and having filamentous red plumes poking out of each orifice

@MLE_online strange crabs worship at its base

MLE_online,
@MLE_online@social.afront.org avatar

@misternineham surely some crabs could be fashioned out of some sort of clamps

@MLE_online
I'm just going to step out on a limb here and ask, what is a ring jug?

MLE_online,
@MLE_online@social.afront.org avatar

@NeadReport it is a jug shaped like a donut. They're made like that because the shape makes it easy to tie a rope through it. It's also said it made it possible to hook them over a saddle horn. It's an old style. Here's an example from the early 1800s

@MLE_online @NeadReport When my kids were tiny there was a baby-toddler stage drinking cup shaped like this that they both loved. I love that it's ancient.

@ShinyBlueThing @MLE_online
Come to think of it, my kid had a rattle/toy that was shaped like that too. Easy to grip for small hands.

@MLE_online
Well I learned something new today! Thanks for that info. Looking forward to the finished product.
