Web traffic analytics company's new figures find that at the moment Windows 10's market share is continuing to go up while Windows 11's market share is actually going down https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-reaches-70-market-share-as-windows-11-keeps-declining/

@mcc "Later this month, Microsoft will showcase new AI features for Windows 11, which could become the first solid reason to leave Windows 10 behind."

um, actually that sounds like a good reason to go back to Windows 10

@mcc I can attest to this, my wife got a new PC the other year and the first thing we did was copy the old Windows 10 drive over and boot from that.
Windows 11 can fuck off, and when they sundown 10 we're off to Linux

@mcc I'm so proud of all of us for making this happen.

@mcc

Knowing corporations a bit, I wouldn't be surprised if soon windows 10 'surprisingly' would get some serious bugs/hacks etc.

See it as the Apple trick, trashing older phones to push people to get the newer one. (because god forbid people would be smart enough to get a fair product from another company.........)

@mcc Everybody took Microsoft's claim that Windows 10 was the last version of Windows seriously except for Microsoft.

@mcc Their policy towards Windows is not sustainable at all.
Their progress is “trampling in one place”

Reiddragon,

@mcc > Later this month, Microsoft will showcase new AI features for Windows 11, which could become the first solid reason to leave Windows 10 behind.

actually that's another reason for me to steer clear of Windows 11 as much as possible

mcc,
@mcc@mastodon.social avatar

@Reiddragon I mean, same, but they also point out you can avoid the AI features by simply making sure to have a sufficiently weak computer

mcc,
@mcc@mastodon.social avatar

@Reiddragon I guess that isn't a long term solution huh

@mcc I think this follows the pattern of every other Windows release being one that people skip because its awful.

Will hold out for Windows12 to upgrade my gaming PC's OS.

@miah @mcc I wonder what would happen if windows 12 is shit

joeo10,
@joeo10@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@millions @miah @mcc I'm glad that Linux exists in cases like that.

In the meantime, MS needs to add 2-3 more years to WIndows 10 past 2025 unless they're willing to face the outrage and fury on all fronts.

mcc,
@mcc@mastodon.social avatar

@joeo10 @millions @miah I think I found a corporate support option by which you'll be able to pay extra to keep using Win10 with security updates past the 2025 cutoff. I am likely to do this because I am absolutely willing to pay extra to avoid "AI" integration

@mcc wow that's wild
