@dangillmor If someone were smart, they’d see there’s an opportunity here to take over the market with their own charging stations, and possibly buy up Elon’s too, if he’s no longer interested in them.

@samhainnight @dangillmor Nokia built things that lasted. Or some small oil company that is deciding to get out of O&G and will use its collateral after selling its oil leases etc to go all in

@dangillmor I couldn't believe it when they decided to use his charging system. He had already demonstrated he was an erratic, drug dependent person for over a year at that point!

It's cultural. When you can reduce costs, you will. Risks are systematically ignored in capitalist systems until they materialize. Mitigation costs money.

@elpolacodesplegado @dangillmor Sorry that does not make sense to me. Capitalism is an economic system not a culture. If correct planning was done instead of just paying attention to maximizing profits there would be far less mitigation to do later.

@fulanigirl @dangillmor Their decision makes sense in the light that the supercharger network is significantly better than the existing competition. Both in size and in how well it’s maintained. And in one of the instances that Tesla got right, the plug is better and everyone standardizing on the same plug will eventually be best for everyone.

I’m not saying Elon is not a shit and trying to pull shenanigans, just that standardizing on the plug and getting access to the network was a rational decision.

Check this video by someone that is NOT a Tesla fan: https://youtu.be/ZJOfyMCEzjQ?si=QzDxdfrUa0wFED79

@markmevans @dangillmor Yes I've been following the saga in Ars Technica. Although we're seeing comments that in some places up to 1/2 of the charging stations are not working. The question in my mind is can they rely on him (especially now w/o the team) to 1) finish the build out and 2) keep them up and running. He's so unpredictable...it seems worrisome.

@dangillmor I thought that, but then I read that the supercharger network is well out of date and not great for the latest cars, so this is likely to hurt Tesla owners more than anyone else.
