They should make more hardware with metal toggle switches because this is so satisfying.

Me switching the toggle switch on an espresso machine.

@simonbs Yes! it’s one of my favorite things of my Niche Zero grinder

Video of the metal toggle switch on the Niche Zero coffee grinder being toggled on and off.

@simonbs Absolutely!

Imagine if the same machine has touch

simonbs,
@simonbs@mastodon.social avatar

@ctietze Indeed! Several times in the process of choosing my first machine, I made deliberate choices to avoid smart features like that. Like, I knew I didn’t want a machine with a touch interface, which basically ruled out fully automatic machines and the most interesting Breville machines. Also, the La Marzocco Micra wasn’t a possibility because it has Bluetooth.

@simonbs I wonder whether hacks like this would work to add control flow ... controls, but with rotary encoders and stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4pTFCGVlmQ

simonbs,
@simonbs@mastodon.social avatar

@ctietze Maybe. I'm not ready to tear open my brand new machine to mod it. Not really interested in smart features either, honestly. I feel like I have enough tech in my life. It's fine for me to keep espresso brewing fairly low-key, at least for now 😄

@simonbs yeah totally :) Following the brands you mentioned I thought you mentioned lack of control flow as a contra

@simonbs my LELIT p62t is currently in maintenance (aka dismembered next to my desk) and I’m starting to fear that if you keep posting about this machine I’ll end up buying it 🙈 !

simonbs,
@simonbs@mastodon.social avatar

@Hugo_say Haha, well, I won’t be the one stopping you 😄

@simonbs I just replaced my 10-year-old Rancilio with a newer (refurb) model for about $600, but boy does that look nice. Would love the double boiler function as well. Maybe next decade…

simonbs,
@simonbs@mastodon.social avatar

@passim Rancilio also seems like a great brand making beautiful machines! Strictly speaking mine isn’t a dual boiler. It’s a dual thermoblock. True espresso enthusiasts drown upon that but is great for my needs.

@simonbs When the Mini Coopers came back in 2002, the had a row of toggles like that for locks, windows, etc. they were fantastic!

simonbs,
@simonbs@mastodon.social avatar

@jaylyerly Googled it and that looks amazingly old school 😀

madmaxbln,
@madmaxbln@mastodon.social avatar

@simonbs are you happy with this machine? I‘m also looking for some inspiration expresso machine wise

simonbs,
@simonbs@mastodon.social avatar

@madmaxbln I’ve only had it for 48 hours so it’s a little too early to draw conclusions but so far I enjoy it very much. It does all I need and more than that. Plus, I really like its aesthetics which matters a lot to me.

@simonbs oh I see 😅 then I’m curious what your overall experience will be, but it looks pretty nice though 🙂
