The main purpose of advertisements is to increase consumption more and more while destroying the planet in the process
Everyday brands play a mind game with us to try and increase their sales, on posters in public trainstation, at the side of the road on a massive billboards or even on the internet
@stux Mostly advertisements are mental pollution. Beyond the first 10% I am not convinced they increase total sales. They just transfer sales from one brand to another.
But being mental pollution, maybe advertising should be taxed.
@stux Serious question since #Threads is potentially looking into this: if they integrated into AP the ability to run ads on servers as a way to generate money to maintain said server, would you enable them? And based on your experience with other admins, do you think they would?
Background: Meta is thinking of ways to monetize the Fediverse by supporting servers running ads and supporting micro-transactions (this is speculation as of now, re: what’s Meta’s interest in the Fediverse?)
