Let me explain. The Secret Post Office is what we call the post office which is hidden away between Flinders Lane and Collins Street. The signage is as minimal as possible (see below) and I suspect the staff like it that way. It's our special secret.
Except that now Australia Post has closed the much more obvious post office near the GPO building, the SPO has become much busier! Sad AP staff. :(
@willie1foot Well quite. When they moved out they shifted the associated post office to the nearest corner, on Elizabeth and Little Bourke. Then it moved to the end of the block, on Elizabeth and Lonsdale. And now it's gone! The facility with the PO boxes is still in existence though, it's around the corner on Bourke Street.
@kiranc@willie1foot More like 20. The associated post office moved nearby, initially to the corner of Elizabeth and Little Bourke; then to the corner of Elizabeth and Lonsdale. But now it's gone. Bit of a nuisance, as we live opposite the location.
@timrichards@willie1foot I was cautious about overestimating, but yeah, it's close to 20. My dad started working in Southern Cross 1 when it first opened about 20 years ago, and Australia Post is based in Southern Cross 2 next door
