@Bobbins I just felt a bit sick that they bigged up a new cadet, who seemed interesting, but, no, she was just another red shirt. And killed for what reason? Seemed entirely unnecessary. Cruel, even. And Dredd was ineffectual. Not sure what the point was, TBH. Annoying because I really liked the story until that frame of her dead eyes.
@craiggrannell Yeah, I can appreciate that. I think I’ve huffed enough survivor films in recent months that the despondent ending was something I was expecting from the moment they drew attention to the cadet.
For me, with only half a page given over to Dredd wandering off, I don’t think it quite had the space to pull off the sort of widescreen despair to really make the sacrifice work. Cramming so much onto that one page left no room to take it in and breathe.
@Bobbins I think it was too soon to do a ‘shock’ death after Maitland. Although this one was ultimately just a red shirt. But then Williams has a habit of creating interesting cast and then killing them off. I’m just not sure what the point was here though. A feint? “She’s going to be great! Dredd likes her. FOOLED YOU!” Something else?
