If you're looking to kick Google or DDG or whatever I'd recommend giving SearXNG a look. It's a meta search engine. https://docs.searxng.org/ You can self host it, it's pretty easy, or you can just use any one of a wealth of public instances. https://searx.space/

I'm fairly certain Kagi is borrowing from SearxNG and making some slight modifications. The only thing Kagi holds over SearxNG that I see is the maps feature.

One more thing on the todo list: writing a blog post about #searxng. I've been using it on a personal instance for the last weeks and I'm pretty happy about the experience. It's my main search engine now, and I very rarely need to open another one.

Da ich schon lange #SearXNG als alternative #Suchmaschine nutze, habe ich von den technischen Problemen bei #Bing tatsächlich erst durch verschiedenen Beiträgen hier in der #Fediverse erfahren. Ich nutze zwar mit SearXNG auch Bing, frage allerdings noch ein paar andere Suchmaschinen ab. Aus diesem Grund ist mir das Problem gestern komplett egal gewesen.
Und von dem wesentlich bessern #Datenschutz solcher alternativen #Metasuchmaschinen will ich erst gar nicht anfangen.

Ok moved #SearXNG back on the VPS. For some reason it was ridiculously slow if I host it on the home server via the wireguard tunnel... Curious why that is the case

Or maybe everything is slower, but it's just more noticeable for SearXNG?
